Eligibility Guidelines:
Please note that if you missed less than 6 days of work, your application is not eligible for assistance. We still want to be a resource for you. If you are facing an additional crisis unrelated to a large-scale crisis, please let us know by emailing
casemanagement@southernsmoke.org. Our team may be able to determine whether you meet eligibility requirements to work with a case manager and build an Emergency Relief Fund case for support.
- This grant is available for F+B workers whose community or workplace has been impacted by a large-scale crisis or closure.
- In order to be considered for assistance, your place of employment must have been closed six or more days.
- Must have been employed 30+ hours per week on average for 6 months leading up to the crisis or disaster. You are able to combine F&B roles to meet the 30-hour criteria.
Aiming to serve the most impacted F+B workers, meaning:
- Our application asks for detailed information—such as income, housing, employment, and insurance status, location, and household makeup—so we can thoughtfully assess each situation and prioritize support for those facing the greatest need during large-scale responses.
Processing Timeline:
- Southern Smoke Foundation is accepting applications in batches of 125 or fewer. The application will be closed when we have reached the maximum application number, and will reopen if funding is available.
- Depending on the crisis, the expected processing time for each batch of applications is 3-6 weeks.
BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:
- Applications submitted with all required documentation and authorization to contact employers directly will be processed more quickly.

- We will require pay stubs outlined in the Documentation section of the application.
- If your home has been impacted due to a natural disaster, we will require proof of your home damages in the form of third-party documentation (fire department, property management company, Department of Public Health, etc.)
- You will have a dedicated case manager who will work on your case.
- You will receive communications via email only.
